This must be on a console. That slow 180 degree rotation around to see wtf is beating on you from behind gives it away. That would drive me nuts, since it's almost instantaneous with the mouse... unless the character just happens to move that slow in all the armor.
@Fluorine: Then play it on the PC when it eventually gets ported there. WTF? Its like complaining how some silly person is walking while youre on a bike. To each his own.
@Fluorine: Just to add, in most walkthroughs, the guy running the demo will play like that anyway, regardless of what system it's running on, to give the viewers a better view of the world and allow them to take in more details. Imagine if he was spinning around everywhere like some pro gamer? Wouldn't be very enticing!
I wasn't trying to be THAT guy, it's just the thing I hate about playing FPS games on consoles. Maybe I haven't fiddled around with the sensitivity enough, but for me (and only me, apparently), the mouse is much more responsive and natural, no fiddling required.
@☆Y2Jason☆: It just seemed really odd. I got that feeling you get when someone new plays, and you want to push them down and show them how to do it. Like when your boss is trying to copy files or format something...
@Modus_Operandi: I wasn't complaining, but I can see how it sounds that way. Plus, as Y2J was saying, they aren't exactly trying to beat the game, just show it off a bit.
You know what really bothers me about these games, the hand/gun. WHO walks around with their gun and hand up by their face and never put them down? I wish the FPS genre could change that, much like Mirrors edge.
Anyway, looking forward to getting this game! First one was a blast.
The hacking looks far too easy, hopefully it scales now and then.
Even with the tonic to reduce flow speed I had trouble with a few safes in BioShock.
Also, I don't really see what some folks have been saying about BioShock 2's atmosphere. It doesn't really look like it's lost any of it's charm. Sure, we already know the ins and outs of Rapture, but I got that same feeling 1/4 the way through the original game and it was still plenty entertaining.
@Paradox me: Really? I thought it was rather easy in the first one, although it did get old pretty fast. It's nice that they've decided to change it up a bit.
I agree with your second statement. It's kind of confusing how so many people are against this game. It probably won't be nearly as good as the first, but I'm still very much looking forward to getting back to Rapture.
@lolgreg: It was only two or three, thanks mostly to a few ill-placed alarms and what not.
I'm all for a change though, I imagine there are quite a few neat ways to do a hacking mini-game, but the above just looks much too easy for my taste.
I hate assured success in games. Might sound weird, but if it's so easy to the point where you have to actually try to fail, it seems pointless to include a mini-game in the first place.
Of course, I've only seen this one video, so I am by no means looking to call it a bad system completely.
I wonder what would have happened if Randy Pitchford hadn't tried to complain about Valve controlling the Steam platform mere weeks before the release of the game. #australia
I pre-ordered on Steam and while I did have the problem with unlocking at first, I've got it working now and have already sunk several hours into it, single-player mind you.
I'm also still going to get Modern Warfare 2 for the PC.
Every day, I'm more and more glad that I'm primarily a single-player kind of guy. #australia
@infinitezero: How sneaky is adding a file EXACTLY describing what it may be doing? If 2K was truly trying to sneakily reduce violence they would've called it ASDASD123123.ncf. ;) #australia
What they need to be "working out" right now, is the bullshit 3-day delay that all non-North Americans are being subjected to. There is absolutely no reason to delay the Steam release 3 days, when they know perfectly well the game is ready to launch.
I would cancel my pre-order if I could. #australia
@animeman59: Yes they do. He's bought the game. He owns it. Gearbox are not letting him play it.
Gearbox have given it a silly arbitrary release date. Its out now today in US. But the rest of the world it just sits in Steam as pre-loaded. its just silly and pointless.
Never mind the week delay on the PC version from console anyway.
This is a clusterfuck of a launch. #australia
@RSQViper:
He has a voice, he can have all the say he wants.
He has bought the game, he has paid Gearbox but they have some silly release dates going on.
Steam is an international service, the game is preloaded for everyone currently, yet only US has been unlocked.
And they have given no reason why they have done this. #australia
@RSQViper: A reason would be nice.
And the date they set is silly. Would they kindly explain why they are releasing it via DD with stunted dates? the product is ready, it is shipped but it is locked out for a specific date in diffrent countries.
There has been no reason for this (most likely as there is none) but they have done it anyway
Why?
And why are gamers so willing to just accept the shit publishers n develoeprs fling at them these days. #australia
I have an Aussy friend, and he sure is pissed that this is delaying his playtime. Apparently, the companies have been boasting that the game would get the US release date, and now they've found a reason to veto that. #australia
@Whytookay - Pro Skub: In North America. The world isn't comprised solely of North America. The mixup today of the release date was a mixup in advertising, the game was always intended to be released this Friday in PAL territories like just about every other game in recent times. #australia
You aren't missing much. Borderlands has been a cluster fuck on the PC so far. First it wouldn't even unlock. Second Gearbox will not for the love of god use anything other than Gaymspah, so it already fails. Thrid is that Gaymspah won't reconize some user accounts so you might not even get online at all. Forth is the fact that it locks up on entering the public servers. Then you can't properly play an online game because of some stupid forwarding of the ports, meaning most private games don't work. Then if your game isn't a massive lag fest or has problems with a connection issue, you can break progression as easy as killing the wrong dude.BL needs a goddamn patch before you gents on the fence pick it up.
Other than that I love my wave shooting blue shotty.
Also, there are many commands mapped to simple keyboard keys that don't make sense for a PC game. To scroll text for missions you have to use Page Down and Page Up. Commands like add friend or invite friend are mapped to A and I instead of clickable buttons. You have got to be kidding me.
@Tiller: ...Then you can't properly play an online game because of some stupid forwarding of the ports, meaning most private games don't work. Then if your game isn't a massive lag fest or has problems with a connection issue...
I don't think a patch will help much. That sounds like every P2P system I've ever used. #australia
@Tiller: The gameplay is very fun, but as Tiller here has said, and anyone with BL in the Kotaku Steam group will agree, the game is a buggy mess.
I currently have to jack my fans up to 70% on my graphics card to keep the driver from crashing and locking up not only the game, but my entire system. A quick trip to the Gearbox forums will show that people with plenty powerful, up to date systems are experiencing the same problem, with little to no idea why. I'm one of the lucky ones where the fan fix has worked so far (knocks on wood), but many others are stuck playing for 20 minutes max before the game locks up and becomes unplayable for upwards of 30 seconds. Many times the only way for the system to recover is through a hard reset.
Right now I'm kinda disappointed. The game is definitely fun, but it really just feels like a port (especially the god-awful menu system - seriously, any kind of menu interaction in the game is straight painful), and I'm not quite seeing how the game was in any real way optimized for PC the way Pitchford made it sound like it would be.
Hopefully Gearbox used the "week" long delay to work on a patch, because the PC release is definitely in need of one.
EDIT: On the bright side, with the fans at 70% my card stayed cooler under load than when i have it idle with the fans at like 15-25%.

@Sir-Lucius does anything for Dethklok: I may have sounded extremely negative there but it frustrated me to no end that a game delayed on PC had even more problems than the console launch.
That said I am enjoying the game immensely. Once you get out of the starting area and raid some baddies the game really picks up. We finally got a band of 4 together last night and had a blast until 5am. It's just a shame that my Soldier's equipment sucks so bad for a level 17. They kept taking all the good stuff :(
@Tiller: Oh I'm really enjoying it as well, which is part of why I'm so disappointed. The game would be absolutely phenomenal if it weren't for the lack of polish that it has. #australia
Well I'd say that currently it sucks to be EU or Australian with the stupid arbitrary digital release dates (its out in US, the game is clearly done, what gives) but today in Steam chat has pretty much just being a troubleshooting session all day.
So hopefully issues will be fixed before the EU release date.
So sounds like the PC version most definitely wasn't delayed a week to fix n tweak n polish. Wonder why it was delayed.......
Seriously though, it pisses me off. Right now, I can download and play Borderlands for the 360 if my 360 was hacked yet they delay the PC version for no reason...that's a load of BS.
@-MasterDex-: Haha, yeah, the 360 version was available on the pirate well before it was even out at reatil.
But PC users get lumped with the securom.
Which Reloaded n Razor have both shown to be complelty useless.
I swear I mentioned in the "Borderlands has SecuROM" article the other day that the pirated version would be out n playable before the street date approached.
beat it by about 12 hours.
@cyruss: Hahah, yeah. I know of many people who've acquired the torrented version. They have the game in their steam list. and it's locked up tight waiting for a silly release date yet the game is out n they want to play it. so they are. #australia
@deanbmmv: Ya know, more and more I'm feeling shafted these days as a PC gamer and while I like to support devs, I feel more and more inclined to pirate games.
Developers and publishers seriously need to wake the fuck up and smell the coffee, they are going about this in the wrong way completely.
What we need is DRM that works, some kind of self-destroying code or something and while my own programming knowledge is fundamental at best, any code monkeys looking to make huge money should be working on a solution that benefits both the consumer and the developers and publishers. #australia
@deanbmmv: one of my opinions was they delayed the pc version MAYBE so people that own consoles rave about the game and people that dont and only have a pc game will go wow looks good im going to get it for the pc or something like that. #australia
@-MasterDex-: some DRM has been effective against pirates, but not many.
I can remember one example when Race Driver 2 came out in 2004 sometime, it took them almost a year to release a cracked version of the game... i think it was the new Starforce protection at the time which was tricky, the Splinter Cell Chaos Theory game was another, it was uncracked for 422 days... its all hackable in the end though and 99% of the time its on or before release date
some other good ones were in Arma game i think, after like 10 mins playing the game if you had a cracked copy it would turn you into a bird and you'd fly across the map, it was something they didn't pick up at first when cracking it.
problem with doing things like that though is it achieves nothing, people will think the game is bugged and not buy it anyway... so who cares if somebody pirates it if they weren't going to buy it anyway (i think a lot of ppl pirate like this anyway just to try it when never intending to buy it)....
i think a better solution would be to allow people to trial the full game for free when its released but lock it to X hours or something, and if they like it they can then buy an unlock code and continue (actually the more i think about it the more i think it would just get cracked anyway)... kinda like a demo, but problem with demos is they're short. i do think they need decent demos to help promote ppl to buy the game... a price cut wouldn't hurt either tho :P *shakes fist at Activision* #australia
@ithyphallus, lazy beareaucrat: Aye. Lying through there teeth. You'd think developers just assume we're complete morons.
We knew why they delayed it, but they didn't even put on a show, like have a arbitrary patch download and update stuff (like saying adding PC controls n turning off the aimbot might of helped).
But there was nothing and the game launched broken which was an even bigger insult.
Not only do they say "oh were patching it it n stuff" they a) didn't b) it was still broken on launch.
I'm with Masterdex on this, you want to support developers but when they snub an entire platform, especially if they are developers that started out on that PC, it just looks bad on the developer and your like "why do I even fucking bother buying your games".
You can't cry out "oh but the PC platform is dying" if your holding a bloodied knife in your hand. #australia
@deanbmmv:
"Which Reloaded n Razor have both shown to be complelty useless."
This. Exactly this.
Reloaded managed to completely fuck up their release and Razor1911 released a proper but didn't actually manage to make a difference.
Either way, reloaded, razor or another group will manage to crack it.
Probably fix it, while they're at it.
It's not like the devs even bothered to have some legit-key-only multi/co-op, so there shouldn't be much more to do.
But, I'm buying the game anyway, before this comment starts a torrential downpour of prissiness.
Along with what Deanbmmv and Masterdex, i dont see the point in buying games if most devs are now forsaking their roots, screwing tons of crap up and the pirates manage to release fixed versions before the devs even get around to releasing the game to the entire market.
Uh. that got a bit longer than i'd have hoped. #australia
