Under-dressed Versus Undead

Onechanbara: Bikini Samurai Squad Coming To 360

Why should Wii owners have all the bikini zombie slaying fun? Eagle-eyed Kotakuite Jeff caught a listing on D3Publisher's website for Onechanbara: Bikini Samurai Squad, an Xbox 360 exclusive version of the game. Control both sisters, Aya and Saki, as they strive to save the earth from zombie infestation. A special dress-up mode allows you to unlock special costumes and outfit the girls as you see fit, so I'm pretty much sold already. Others might enjoy Story Mode, Free Play Mode, Survival Mode, and Quest Mode, but I'm all about playing dress-up and then showing off my outfits via co-op multiplayer.

D3Publishers is being a bit sneaky with this one, as I found no mention whatsoever of the game outside of their page, but we'll be sure to update you as soon as we have info on a release target, more gameplay details, or pictures of the pretty, pretty clothing.

D3 Publisher: Boobs, Sheep, and Aliens, Oh My!

At this year's E3, D3 Publisher had several offerings to show off, ranging from kiddie show spin offs and more Naruto games to M-rated boobs and gore, as well as the 'spiritual successor' of Puzzle Quest: Challenge of the Warlords. While I passed by the Naruto games due to time constraints and lack of interest, I did look at five other games: Puzzle Quest: Galactrix, Onechanbara, Ben 10: Alien Force, Bangai-O Spirits, and Shaun the Sheep. Hit the jump for some art assets from the games and impressions. More »

D3 Publisher's E3 Line Up - Onechanbara And Friends

After announcing that they're bringing the bikini-clad, cowboy hat-wearing, zombie shooting Onechanbara to North America yesterday, does D3 Publisher have any other games featured at E3 that really matter? I suppose it depends on who you ask. Me? I'm excited about Puzzle Quest: Galactrix for Live Arcade, DS, and PC, but I am the puzzly sort. Anime fans might enjoy Naruto: Clash of the Ninja Revolution 2 for the Wii, though I'd say we're all wishing they'd just advance the storyline already and give us some new characters in the states. Same with Path of the Ninja 2 for the DS. The new Bangai-O Spirits certainly isn't anything to sneeze at. Ben 10: Alien Force? Shaun the Sheep?

I suppose once you announce a game where a scantily clad woman gets splattered with zombie blood the rest of your line up looks a bit pale by comparison.

Bikini Zombie Slaying Comes To America With Onechanbara

Finally, D3 Publisher of America has come to its senses! We don't want your Dark Sectors, guys; we want your poorly animated super soldiers shooting giant bugs and gooey zombie killin' adventures in combat inappropriate clothing. We want that mind-numbing stuff. That's why we're so pleased to learn, via GamesRadar, that Onechanbara: Bikini Zombie Slayers will be coming to the Wii in early 2009.

Sure, it wasn't my most memorable experience at Tokyo Game Show last year and these games aren't exactly "good," but you can dispatch the undead in bikinis, biker outfits and barely legal schoolgirl get-ups. We're willing to sacrifice our joints to over-waggling if it helps convince D3 to bring Onechanbara VorteX over here.

Onechanbara's coming to the Wii [GamesRadar - thanks, Jeff!]

Oneechanbara Takes Manhattan

New Yorkers with a thirst for blood covered cowgirls may want to free up their Friday night, as the movie adaptation of Oneechanbaratrailer here—has its "international premiere" at the New York Asian Film Festival later this week. It looks to have all the narrative density of an informational pamphlet but does feature school girl outfits and biker chicks fighting the undead.

The Japanese hack and slash and tits and ass flick based on the D3 video game of the same name will be screened Friday, June 20 at 10:45pm and Wednesday, June 25 at 4:00pm at the IFC Center in New York City. Brain activity will be checked at the door.

Onechanbara Movie Hits Next Week

Ah, Onechanbara. Cowgirl, female flesh, zombies. It's like lightning in a bottle. As you may or may not know, the hack n' slash series is being made into a live-action movie, of which this is the final theatrical poster. The film's due to open in theatres across Japan next week (April 26), and should go down a treat with fans of the games. For everyone else, this poster does a pretty good job of setting the scene.

D3Publisher Gets Vicious

Quirky publisher D3Publisher of America has acquired developer Vicious Cycle Software. Japan's D3 is best know for games like Onechanbara and Earth Defense Force. Two years earlier the company set up an American division, and with this announcement, it looks to strengthen its position there. The North Carolina-based Vicious Cycle will become a D3 subsidiary. Vicious Cycle is responsible for the PSP version of Puzzle Quest as well as upcoming PSP exclusive Dead Head Fred. Said Eric Peterson, president, Vicious Cycle Software

Having worked with D3PA for the past few years, we know the company shares our passion for creative excellence and our commitment to quality... We're thrilled to become a part of D3PA and we look forward to contributing our creative talents to D3PA's portfolio of innovative games.

At the very least, this should be interesting. More »

The Zoom Friendly Onechanbara Doll

Everyone's favorite cowboy boots and bikini wearin' zombie slayer Aya from D3's Onechanbara is getting a new figurine come this June. Priced at ¥7,140 (US $59), the fig is at 1/6 scale and measures in at 29 cm (11.4 inches). Over at the YAMATO link below, there's even a "PHOTOZoomer" that lets shoppers get up close and personal with the figure. How close? Why, this close. More »

Onechanbara US Release: "Yes." Zombie Vs. Ambulance: "No."

Over at game site Gamasutra Brandon Sheffield has a neat interview with D3 Publisher's Alison Quirion. About a year ago, the company established an American arm of the company. Lots of nice info peppered through the interview, so do head over there and read through the whole thing. Here's what caught my eye: More »

Onechanbara: The Cell Phone Game

We've seen the cute toys, now have a gander at the cute Onechanbara cell phone game. Cowboy-hat-wearing-zombie-slayer gets cell-shaded and over-the-shoulder camera angles for D3 Publisher's CERO Z (the Japanese game equivalent of "X") title. Since its a cell phone title, apparently the game slips under the country's ratings radar. Though, with graphics that kawaii, what's to worry? More »

Onechanbara Gets Kawaii Toys

That hack-and-slasher game Onechanbara for the Xbox 360 now boasts a cute set of capsule toys. Play-Asia's got 'em for the importers with each one running US $3.90. Difference between these toys and in-game characters? Blood. More »

Xbox 360: Adult Games For Japanese Adults

With titles like Idolm@ster and Onechanbara, the Xbox 360 is a console for Japanese consumers with discerning tastes. Not only that, but hit "American" titles like Dead Rising and Gears of War get slapped with country's dreaded games-as-porn "Z" rating. And Microsoft is starting to realize this. And hopefully capitalize on it. More »

Onechanbara In Bizarre Office Scene

Yup. I asked the same question. Twice. Game Watch Impress has a totally wacky article up in which someone from that site walks in on a sit down between Onechanbara VorteX's Aya and some dude from Earth Defense Force 3 at publisher D3's offices. It all ends with the unveiling of screen shots for both Xbox 360 games. Delightfully nutty. More »

Onechanbara's Pretty Outfits To Kill Zombies In

Our favorite zombie-slashing cowboy hat-donning boa-wearing bikini killer, Onechanbara's Aya gets new duds in the next-gen Xbox 360 sequel Onechanbara VorteX. Looks like there are dress-ups for the character's head, arms, legs—along with tops and bottoms for the character to wear during the hacking and the slashing. Don't just think of them as new outfits for Aya to wear, but new outfits to cover in zombie blood. More »

TGS06: Onechanbara, The Stage Show

Rather static for a stage show, sure, but we are still excited. It's not the bikini or the swords that makes us so jazzed about publisher D3's Onechanbara: vorteX. Oh, no. It's that killer cowboy hat.

Onechanbara To Slice Up Xbox 360

In the continuing effort to make the 360 appealing for those with "discerning" tastes, zombie chanbara game Onechanbara is slated for released at the end of the year in Japan. And well, we do love our zombies here at Kotaku. The game's title is a word play on "one" (sister, young girl"), "chan" (an informal name marker) and "chanbara" (sword fighting). Dubbed Onechanbara: vorteX, the game pits the cowboy-hat-and-skimpy-outfit wearing young heroine against hoards of the walking dead, whom she slices up with katanas in a Kill Bill-style blood bath bonanza. Anyone familiar with publisher D3's Simple 2000 Onechanbara for the PS2 would probably agree: This is the only safe-for-work imagine available. The words "Japan Only" mean, anything? More »
